This year’s Homecoming theme is...Chicago Style South!  Homecoming Week begins next Monday, September 20, with activities the whole week long! Dress-up days for the week are:

  • Wednesday is Chicago Sports--Represent your favorite sports team (Cubs, Sox, Bears, Blackhawks)! 

  • Thursday is Night Out in the City--Wear your finest attire for a night out in Chicago! 

  • Friday is Blue & Gold--Represent GBS in your spirit wear!

**All school dress code rules apply to themed dress-up days. "Clothing worn must provide reasonable coverage.”

Other events for the week include:

  • Thursday, September 23 @ 7:30pm - Movie Night.  Showing the teen classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off in the West Teacher’s Parking Lot.                                                                           

  • Friday, September 24 from 5:30-6:30pm - Pep Rally.  Get hyped for the varsity homecoming football game!  Admission is free.                                   

  • Friday, September 24 @ 7:00pm - Varsity Football Game vs. Niles West.  Come watch the GBS Titans tame the Niles West Wolves!  Admission is $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for students at the gate.  Free entry with an Activity Pass.  **Make sure your Activity Pass is loaded on your digital ID, or includes the sticker on your physical ID.                                                     

  • Saturday, September 25 @ 10:00am - Homecoming Parade - Kick-off from St. David’s Church                                                                                                                      

  • Saturday, September 25 from 7:30-10:30pm - Homecoming Dance -  West teacher’s parking lot.  Admission in advance is $15 w/Activity Pass, $17 w/o. Pre-pay in the bookstore.  $20 tickets at the entrance the night of the dance.  Chicago-style food for purchase from food trucks, DJ, and an LED light wall!                                                           

The Titan Learning Center is open and ready to help you!  We offer free tutoring in all content areas and for all levels! We are located just inside the Library and are available from 7:15am to 4:30pm (4:00pm on Fridays).  We can’t wait to help you with your study needs!


Yearbooks are here!  If you ordered a book last year and haven’t picked it up yet, please stop by the SAO to pick it up.


Hey South! The marching band practices in the West Lot on Mondays and Thursdays after school.  If you park in the West Lot, be sure to move your car before you head to practices or activities after school on Mondays or Thursdays!


Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors-  Photo retakes are scheduled for Thursday, October 7.  If you missed your photo opportunity the first week of school or need a retake, please stop by the SAO Conference Room anytime during the day on October 7.  Questions?  Contact the SAO.

Creativity for Change Club, formally known as Art Club, will have its first meeting today, Tuesday, September 21! We will meet in the Art Room every other Tuesday after school. See Ms. Fuja in the Art Office if you have any questions. See you then Artists!

Bags Club is back! We meet Thursdays after school in front of the main entrance. Join us for conversation and to toss some bags! Contact Mr. Rhoades with any questions.

Board Game Club meets on Thursdays at 3:30pm in Room 1323. Come try a variety of unique board games with fellow GBS students! No experience necessary.

Interested in business?  Have a competitive edge?  Business Professionals of America is having their first meeting this Thursday, September 23 at 3:25pm in Room 1146.  Join us to learn more about what BPA has to offer.  All are welcome!  Questions?  See Ms. McManamon or Ms. Korienek in the CTE Department.  

Join GBS’s Chicano College Bowl! It’s a great way to meet new people and have fun. We meet on Tuesdays in Room 2174. All are welcome.

Chinese Club is meeting today, Tuesday, September 21 after school in the Foods Room.  Join us in celebration of the Moon Festival. We will make candied fruit kabobs and eat moon cakes. Everyone is welcome!

Computer Science Club is back!  We meet every Wednesday after school in Room 1215 Join us for fun activities, discussions, and coding.  All experience levels are welcome!

Gaming Club meets Mondays after school in the SAC.

Are you interested in enhancing your historical knowledge through fun and interesting presentations? Join History Club after school every Thursday in Room 2142.  Email Ms. Lupfer with any questions.

Knitting Club meets Mondays after school in the Student Services Office. We have supplies for you to knit or crochet, and are happy to teach you how.

GBS Med Chapter will be hosting a virtual first year Pediatric Resident with your questions submitted from our last meeting! Join us in Room 1363 tomorrow, Wednesday, September 22 at 3:30pm.

Interested in learning more about the legal system or getting better at public speaking? Join the GBS Mock Trial Team! We meet on Wednesdays after school in Room 2123. Email Ms. Quigley with questions!

Model United Nations is back! This week’s meetings are for new members. We’ll be in the back   of the Library classroom Tuesdays at 3:15pm and Wednesday mornings at 7:15am. Come to discuss world events, practice public speaking, and make new friends! Contact Mr. Sisler for more info.

Hey South!  Come to SAFE Club, a club that aims to promote body positivity and general mental wellness every Thursday at 3:30pm in Room 1357.  See you there!

If you think sailing sounds interesting, make sure to join the GBS sailing team!  Mondays and Wednesdays for Junior Varsity practices and Tuesdays and Thursdays for Varsity practices! 3:40pm to 6:30pm after school, and races on weekends against other schools. Spring and fall seasons, and no prior experience needed. Email for more information.

Are you interested in planning fun events with local nursing homes? Join our Senior Smiles meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, September 22nd before school in Room 2171. We hope to see you there.

Advocate for the protection of children's rights, help meet their basic needs and expand opportunities  for them! Join GBS Unicef this Thursday, September 23 in the SAC at 7:30am for our next meeting!

Unidos will have a meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, September 22 after school in Room 2174. Join us as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. All are welcome!  See you there!



Any boys interested in playing lacrosse- there will be an offseason player meeting today, Tuesday, September 21 after school at 3:45pm, in the Health Classroom, (Room 1516) in the Physical Education wing. Those in a Fall sport or who cannot make it email Coach Matt Larsen.
