PSAT/NMSQT
GBS will provide the opportunity for interested junior students to take the PSAT/NMSQT on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. The PSAT/NMSQT is a 2 hour and 45 minute test that measures the reading, mathematics, language, and writing skills essential to college-level work.
The PSAT/NMSQT serves two main purposes:
- It is a practice test for the SAT. Glenbrook South will administer the SAT to all juniors on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. (Please note that scores earned on the PSAT/NMSQT are not used as criteria for college admission.)
- The National Merit Corporation uses the PSAT/NMSQT as the qualifying test for all students who wish to participate in its nationwide scholarship competition. Students who score in the 99th percentile of the PSAT/NMSQT qualify for this scholarship competition.
Interested students may register online. Online registration is completed through the Power School e-Funds Payment Portal. Select Exam-PSAT/NMSQT under Optional Fees. The fee is non-refundable.
PSAT/NMSQT fees are waived for students who currently receive financial assistance.
- Test Date: Wednesday, October 11: 8 a.m.–noon at GBS. Please note, that this day is a late arrival day for all other students.
- Fee: $20.00 (non-refundable)
- Early Registration Deadline: Monday, September 11, 2023
- Late Registration Deadline: Exams are limited. Registrations after Monday, September 11, 2023, are accepted on a first come, first served basis depending on exam availability.
If you have any questions about the PSAT/NMSQT or SAT, please contact your student’s school counselor.

Testing Accommodations
Students with an IEP or a Section 504 Plan who wish to have accommodations on standardized tests, such as the ACT or SAT, must apply for accommodations with the specific testing agency. Both ACT and College Board have their own application process and make independent decisions in regards to accommodations.
Below are some guidelines to follow when requesting testing accommodations for standardized tests.
ACT Testing Accommodations
- Go to www.actstudent.org to create an account and register for the test.
- APPLY BEFORE THE ACT STANDARD REGISTRATION WINDOW ENDS. We cannot guarantee that requests made during the late registration window will be processed before the ACT deadline.
- Pay attention to the following question, “Do you need accommodations to access this test?” Make sure to check “Yes”.
- Determine if you are applying for:
- National Extended Time - 504 Plan or IEP indicates up to time-and-a-half in school, completes all tests in one session.
- Special Testing - 504 Plan or IEP indicates more than time-and-a-half on tests, 1:1 testing with extended time, or requires testing over multiple days.
- Make sure to list student email and parent email on application. Parents - it’s a good idea to opt into receiving the same emails your son/daughter will receive.
- Once you have completed the process, you will receive an email that you need to forward to Glenbrook South. Please forward to Laura Ward, lward@glenbrook225.org.
- You must sign the ACT Consent Form and email to Mrs. Ward, lward@glenbrook225.org. Verbal consent is also accepted, 847-486-4540.
- To guarantee submission for an upcoming test date, Accommodation Requests must be submitted to Laura Ward no later than the initial registration deadline. Requests received after the registration deadline, but before the late registration deadline are not guaranteed to be submitted for consideration for an upcoming exam.
Please Note: Glenbrook South does not host any testing during the month of July. If you are registering for testing accommodations for the July National Test after June 9, you will need to apply for accommodations directly through ACT. If a student qualifies for Special Testing, you must work directly with ACT to find a testing location for the July Test.
College Board Testing Accommodations
Glenbrook South administers the PSAT 8/9 to all students in ninth grade, PSAT 10 to all students in 10th grade and SAT to all students in 11th grade. The Testing Coordinator applies for testing accommodations through the College Board for students who qualify for testing accommodations in their current IEP or 504 Plan in advance of assessment testing provided that a signed Consent Form is on file.
Once a student has been approved, testing accommodations apply on all College Board exams including all standardized AP, SAT and SAT Subject Tests . Please click here for student and family tips from the College Board.
Please note: to guarantee submission for an upcoming test date, Accommodation Requests must be submitted to Laura Ward no later than the initial registration deadline. Requests received after the registration deadline, but before the late registration deadline are not guaranteed to be submitted for consideration for an upcoming exam.
Please contact your school counselor or email Laura Ward, lward@glenbrook225.org if you would like to check the status of your student’s testing accommodations.
