During tryouts, players' fitness will be assessed using the following method. 

• Freshmen | 5 in 7 Test (Assessing Endurance)
  • This test is performed on a full-length soccer field.
  • Players start at one corner of the soccer field and have seven minutes to run five full laps around the soccer field.
• Non-Freshmen | 120's Interval Test (Assessing Endurance & Recovery)
  • The test is performed on a full-length soccer field. Players start on one goal line and will have 18 seconds to sprint and reach the opposite goal line (120 yards away) upon the coach's whistle. Their recovery will be a 42-second jog back to the starting goal line before their next 18-second sprint begins. This process will repeat nine more times for 10 sprints in 10 minutes.
  • Unlike in previous years, no additional rest breaks will be given during the ten sprint series.
  • Players are expected to pass the ten sprints without going over the allowed time for both the full-field sprint and the 42-second recovery jog back.
  • Any players who fail the test (unable to keep up with the time allotments) will stop and stand at the goal-line as other players continue the test.

NON-FRESHMEN TESTS 

120’s Interval Test (Assessing Endurance & Sprint Recovery)  

• This test is performed on a full-length soccer field.  Players start on one goal-line.  They will have 17 seconds to sprint and reach the opposite goal line (120 yards away) upon the coach’s whistle.  Their recovery will be a 40 second jog back to the starting goal line before their next 17-second sprint begins.  This process will repeat 9 more times for a total of 10 sprints in 10 minutes. 

• Players are expected to pass the 10 sprints without going over the allowed time for both the full-field sprint and the 40 second recovery jog back. 

• Any players who fail the test (unable to keep up with the time allotments) will stop and stand at the goal-line as other players continue the test. 

Nike Sparq Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 2 (Assessing Endurance)  

- This test is performed on an area of the field that has a designated start line and an outbound line that is 20 meters (~22 Yards) away.  Players begin at the start line.  Upon hearing the audio direction to “Go”, they will run to the line that is 22 yards away and return back to the start before the “Beep” is sounded.  Players will then have a 10 second recovery walk/jog in which they must touch the recovery line that is 5 meters (~5.5 yards) behind the start line before starting the next 40 meter run.  As players progress to the next level, the amount of time for the 40 meter run is decreased thus requiring the players to run faster in their sprint.  Players will repeat the 40 meter runs until they fail to reach the start line before the “beep”.  This will mark their fitness level score for this particular test. 

FRESHMEN TEST 

5 in 7 Test (Assessing Endurance)  

• This test is performed on a full-length soccer field.   

• Players start at 1 corner of the soccer field.  They have 7 minutes to run 5 full laps around the soccer field. 

• Players will run this fitness test at the start of tryouts.  If a player fails the test, they will have another opportunity to pass the test at the next day’s tryout.
