MUSIC THEORY 161 (MUT16200S)

An accelerated study of the basic principles of music theory: notation, scales, keys, harmony, melody and four-part writing, form, ear training, sight singing and harmonic analysis. A brief overview of music history from medieval to contemporary times is also included. This integrative and challenging class is for students planning to continue music studies or performance training.
AP MUSIC THEORY & COMPOSITION 283 (MUT28300S)

This course is designed specifically for the academically gifted music student. Its content is a continuation of the harmonic principles taught in Music Theory 161 with a focus on the art of composition. This course emphasizes skills and content required to perform successfully on the AP exam for this course given in May. The student may receive college credit, advanced college placement, or both depending on the exam score. Honors credit.
PREREQUISITE: Completion of Music Theory 161 OR satisfactory achievement on placement examination through instructor.
ADVANCED MUSIC THEORY & COMPOSITION 373 (MUT37300S)

GUITAR 161 (MUG10200S)
GRADE: 9, 10, 11, 12 LENGTH: 1 Sem CREDIT: 0.50 GPA: All Subject
This is a multi-level guitar class for beginners through advanced. No prior musical knowledge or playing experience is required. Basic guitar playing technique, including tuning, note reading and chord playing is included. Grades are based on knowledge of the guitar and development of playing the guitar. Students will record a project portfolio.
MUSIC PRODUCTION AND TECHNOLOGY 163 (MUE1630HS)

Students in Music Production and Technology 163 will learn to utilize synthesizers and samplers on a variety of digital audio workstations (DAW). Modern digital recording techniques are learned through hands-on experience in the classroom. Students will use skills learned in this class to develop their projects into well-formed productions.

Students in Music Production and Technology 263 continue to develop skills developed in Music Production and Technology 163. Students will work on independent projects, exploring individual interests and developing a portfolio of productions.
PREREQUISITE: Completion of Music Production and Technology 163.
