INTRODUCTION TO DRAMA 161 (EYD16100S)
GRADE: 9, 10, 11, 12 LENGTH: 1 Sem CREDIT: 0.50 GPA: All Subject
This beginning class welcomes students of all experience levels who have an interest in theatre and the performing arts. The course serves as a holistic foundation for theatre as a complete art form, from performance to design. In this course, students will learn communication skills and how to develop confidence through performance, dive into theatre history from Ancient Greece to present day, collaborate with classmates of varying backgrounds and grade levels, learn the basic elements of theatrical design, and experience numerous performance opportunities. Drama 161 is designed to educate students who will move on to take upper level drama courses, perform on stage, and serve as technicians. In addition to providing the foundational skills for performance, Drama 161 aims to provide all students with the confidence and tools to communicate and connect with others in the world: in school, work, the community, and beyond.
ADVANCED ACTING 261 (EYD26100S)
GRADE: 9, 10, 11, 12 LENGTH: 1 Sem CREDIT: 0.50 GPA: All Subject
This intermediate course focuses on performance and a study of prominent acting techniques. Skills covered include character creation, script analysis, auditioning, self-care for performers, relaxation and concentration, and ensemble building. There will be numerous performance opportunities, including the potential for a class play. Activities emphasize the development of individual acting skills and ensemble-based creation. This course may be repeated for additional credit.
PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of Introduction to Drama 161 OR Instructor approval
IMPROVISATION 361 (EYD36100S)
GRADE: 10, 11, 12 LENGTH: 1 Sem CREDIT: 0.50 GPA: All Subject
This advanced acting course emphasizes the technique of improvisation. The art of improvisation will be developed in both short form and long form. Many improvisational games and techniques will be learned. This class will be performance based with a minimum of one outside of class performance. Course may be combined with Advanced Acting 261. This course may be repeated for additional credit.
PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of Introduction to Drama 161.
DIRECTED DRAMA PROJECTS 461 (EYD46100S)
GRADE: 10, 11, 12 LENGTH: 1 Sem CREDIT: 0.50 GPA: All Subject
This course is for advanced drama students who want to focus on directing. Students will learn and complete the directorial process from analysis to performance. These productions may be presented as part of an evening of one-acts. Students in Directed Drama Projects will have the opportunity to direct their peers from Advanced Acting and may serve as Student Directors for GBS Drama productions. This course may be repeated for additional credit.
PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of Introduction to Drama 161 and Advanced Acting 261.
