FRESHMAN MARCHING BAND (MUB11300S)
GRADE: 9 LENGTH: 2 Sem CREDIT: 1.00 GPA: All Subject
Incoming freshmen band students who would like to participate in marching band should register for this course. The band rehearses and performs a variety of literature ranging from marching band to symphonic band. Students enrolled in this class are required to perform with the marching band and pep band, as well as concerts and events as assigned by the director. Please note that incoming freshmen are required to participate in Band Camp which usually takes place one week before the first day of school.
CONCERT BAND (MUB1230HS)
GRADE: 9, 10, 11, 12 LENGTH: 2 Sem CREDIT: 1.00 GPA: All Subject
This is a performing ensemble composed of students who have some technical proficiency on their instrument. Standard concert band literature of a moderate level is rehearsed and performed. Through sectional and individual guidance, students develop technical skills. Students are required to perform in major concerts during the school year. This group is designed for the non-marching band student.
SYMPHONIC MARCHING BAND (MUB12300S)
GRADE: 10, 11, 12 LENGTH: 2 Sem CREDIT: 1.00 GPA: All Subject
This ensemble begins with the fall marching band season, and continues with the winter/spring concert season, along with the pep band season in winter. Music literature of a medium-advanced level is rehearsed and performed. Students are required to perform in major concerts and special programs during the school year. Students are also required to attend special rehearsals outside of school time, including summer Band Camp. Students interested in performing in the Color Guard (non-instrumental marching flag ensemble) should contact the director of bands.
PREREQUISITE: Completion of Freshman Marching Band or Concert Band.
MARCHING SYMPHONIC WINDS (MUB13300S)
GRADE: 10, 11, 12 LENGTH: 2 Sem CREDIT: 1.00 GPA: All Subject
The ensemble begins with the fall marching band season, and continues with the winter/spring concert season, along with the pep band season in winter. It is composed of students who have attained a high degree of proficiency on their instruments. Music literature of an advanced level is rehearsed and performed. Students are required to perform in major concerts and special programs during the school year. Students are also expected to attend special rehearsals outside of school time, including summer Band Camp.
PREREQUISITE: Completion of Freshman Marching Band or Concert Band, and placement by audition.

What if I want to do other activities?
- Our band members do it all! We have people involved in: varsity & intramural athletics; choir; drama; dance; clubs; speech; debate; yearbook; newspaper; student government; part-time jobs, and more!
- The band directors work with coaches and activity sponsors to ensure students can participate in multiple activities
When does GBS Marching Band start?
- The Marching Titans perform at the Glenview 4th of July parade; rehearsals begin in late June; all incoming freshman are encouraged to participate
- We have rehearsals a few evenings in the summer and then a week-long band camp before school starts
Where has the band gone on trips?
- Our bands have performed all over the country and even internationally
- We’ve participated in every major college bowl game
- We’ve gone to Hawaii, Florida, California, New York
- We participated in the Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Day Parade
- We run fundraisers throughout the year to raise money to pay for these trips

Get GBS Marching Band into your schedule
- Incoming GBS students meet with their counselors in January to select classes
- Students are allocated two electives per semester; band is a full year elective
- Freshman are typically assigned an SRT, Student Resource Time (study hall)
- An SRT is not required; its typically never as productive as a parent would hope
- Tell your counselor you would like to join Marching Band in place of your SRT
- This allows students to take a second elective or an SRT
