Congratulations to Titan Debaters Dasha Kosack and Ava Leipzig for their first place finish out of 40 teams at the Maine East Regatta Debate Tournament last weekend! Sophomores Griffin Jacobs and Eyan Majeed were semifinalists.  Freshmen Sean Nicgorski and Ryan Sullivan led the Titan novice debaters with their semifinals performance.

Congratulations to Rachel Lugo, who placed 1st and Ana Pavlovic, who placed 2nd in the FCCLA Star Culinary competition last Friday!  They will represent GBS at the State competition next month!

Congratulations to the Glenbrook South Model UN team for their performance at the North American Invitational conference in Washington, D.C. last weekend!  This Georgetown University sponsored conference is considered the most competitive in the world, with over 3,000 delegates participating. All 24 GBS delegates worked tirelessly for four days, and half were formally recognized at the closing ceremony. The Outstanding Delegates were Maddy McGrath, Gavin Morse, and Colin Morse.  The Honorable Delegates were Michael Davis, Sophia Kendall, Ally Kiwaiko, Angela Schectman, and Kayla Zuiker. Delegates earning Verbal Commendations were Lizzie Garvey and Hansen Punnoose.  Book Awards were given to Ainsley Gallagher and Delaney Gallagher for their outstanding research.  Great job delegates!

Mamma Mia! Here we go...audition materials for the 2019 Glenbrook Musical Mamma Mia! are now available! Come to the SAO or the Fine Arts Office for hard copies, or go to to print your own copy of the music and callback scenes.  See Mr. Maranto in Fine Arts with any questions. The audition workshop is NEXT Monday, February 25th and auditions begin NEXT Tuesday, February 26th.

Hey South! "Beach Party!" Turnabout 2019 will be on Saturday, March 2nd! Dress is semi-formal (sport coat and tie for guys & semi-formal for girls). Bid price per person is $15 with an Activity Pass and $17 without Activity Pass.  $20 at the door. Bring your friends and have a blast in the islands with a photo booth, dueling DJs and so much more! Have you had a GBS teacher who has had an incredible impact on you? Nominate him or her for the Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award.  The Distinguished Teacher award is designed to recognize exceptional educators who generously give their time, share their passions, and change lives. Current teachers who have received this award include include Mr. Cope, Ms. Ericksen, Ms. Fitch, Mr. Henderson, Mr. Hussmann, Dr. Makita-Discekici, Mr. Meyer, Dr. Oswald, Mr. Webb, Mr. Weissenstein, and Mr. Whipple.  Nominate another outstanding teacher for this honor now through March 22, 2019. Don’t get left out on distribution day in May! Be sure to purchase your 2019 yearbook by THIS Friday, February 22. Yearbooks can be purchased at or the bookstore. If you’re not sure if you already have one reserved, check with the bookstore. Don’t miss out on memories to last a lifetime!

Stop by the Lyceum this week anytime during the day to see the outstanding variety of artworks from your very own art students. These works will showcase all art classes at GBS. Come check it out!

The Sophomore Parent Coffee has been canceled for March 8th. Please join us at the Sophomore Parent College Night on Thursday, March 14 at 7pm in the Watson Auditorium. Mr. John Klasen, Director of College Counseling, will introduce the college search process, testing options, and the Naviance curriculum. The evening will end with a brief Question & Answer session.

In celebration of Black History Month, the Black Student Union will be hosting a variety of events every Thursday in February, during Block 3. Students will celebrate art, fashion, current events, poetry, and food. BSU is excited to share these experiences with students and staff. Stop by the SAC on Thursdays in February, to help us celebrate!

Seal of Biliteracy registration is now open!  Students may register online in the PowerSchool Parent Portal or in the bookstore.  Registration is $25. Attention All Students! The Bernie's Book Drive is back! The Interact Club is helping collect new or gently used books for children around neighboring communities who do not have enough resources to provide their families something as simple as a children's book, a key part in having a meaningful childhood. Feel free to drop off your donations in the SAO.  All donations will help children in need.

Attention Juniors! Applications for next year’s Public Relations Internship are now open! If you are interested in writing stories, conducting interviews, taking photos and managing school social media accounts, apply today. An application and further information about the internship can be found @  Application deadline is NEXT Friday, March 1st.

Calling all artists, photographers, poets, and writers!  Calliope is accepting submissions for our second edition, Adrift! Submit your artwork and writing to by Wednesday, March 6th, for a chance to be featured!

What is a way for a GBS junior or sophomore to actually make a life changing difference in the life of a family in poverty?  The Glenbrook Summer Habitat program.  If you are a sophomore or junior who turns 16 by June 1st, then be sure to apply!  The week long summer course is offered at 4 different times this summer, to help fit into busy schedules.  More than 1000 students have participated over the past 14 years. Search “Habitat” on the GBS website and fill out your application today.  Submission deadline is Wednesday, March 6th.

Attention South! Come check out the new Art Gallery space in the front of the school. The work you will see in the show is artwork done by National Art Honors Society members centered around the idea of Service over Self. Enjoy the show!

Attention All Students- Ever wonder what career you will take on as an adult?  Ever wonder how a food scientist, an engineer, or a physical therapist ended up choosing their career?  Well, GBS Connects Career Day will definitely help you out!  Check your school email and follow the directions to register for sessions you would like to attend.  Speakers will fill up fast, so be the first to register. The event will take place on Wednesday, March 13th.

Attention Seniors-  If you still have not given your cap and gown measurement information to Jostens, be sure to do that! The info was due back in September.  Go to the Jostens website at find the “cap and gown” option for zero dollars and provide your name and measurement information.  You will be assessed a $10 late fee. The Boys Basketball Team enjoyed a sweep over Maine West last night, with a final score of 71-43!  Dom Martinelli led all scorers with 33 points and Will King delivered 14 assists.  The program would like to thank the great student crowd, the tremendous stylings of our band, and our Cheerleaders and Poms.  The boys will play their final home game vs. Hersey, THIS Friday, February 22nd, at 5:30 pm in the Dome. The Titan Girls Basketball Team concluded the season last night and would like to thank all of the fans who gave them such tremendous support throughout the year.  The team finished 23-8 and captured the Mundelein Thanksgiving Tournament championship, the Wheaton North Christmas Tournament Championship, and the Niles North Regional Championship.  A special congratulations to nine amazing seniors: Lindsey Burrowes, Emily Castelli, Julia DiSano, Shelby Green, Kate Gregory, Grace O’Brien, Kristin Ralston, Makayla Stadler, and Libbie Vanderveen, who led the team to an amazing year!

Congratulations to the Titan Girls Gymnastics Team for placing fourth in the state meet this past weekend!  Earning all-state honors were Sheena Graham on vault and Jenna Hartley on vault, beam, floor and all-around.

Congratulations to the Boys Swim Team on their win at this past weekend’s Sectional Meet!  All 10 swimmers and one diver qualified for the State Meet.  State qualifiers include:  Kevin Becker, Elliot Chen, Matt Dale, Mike Hadjiivanov, Max Iida, Quin Loughran, Sami Moussally, Cam Schulte, Zac Spalding, Nick Tarantino, and Adam Zuiker.  Good luck at state!

Attention all Softball players! We have a mandatory meeting TODAY, Wednesday, February 20th, at 3:30pm in the PE classroom in regards to tryouts. If you  cannot make it, please talk to Coach Boehmer.

Interested in trying out for baseball?  There will be a mandatory informational meeting for all athletes interested in trying out for baseball TODAY, Wednesday, February 20th, at 3:30 in Room 715.  If you cannot attend please see Coach Stanicek in the Physical Education office.
