September 18th Video Announcements

Homecoming Week is here!   This year’s Homecoming theme is “Dancing in September: Titans Through the Decades.”   Get into the HoCo spirit, South!  THURSDAY, September 20th, is The 90’s!  Colorful track jackets, dizzying patterns, baggy pants with cuffed ankles, oversized sweaters, and anything jean material!  

Stop by the West Cafe on on THURSDAY, September 20th, for the DJ, Club food fair, raffles, and giveaways of vintage toys, games, and clothes! 

Homecoming tickets are now on sale!  BOOM is back, so you know it will be a good time!  Tickets are $15 with an Activities Pass, $17 without an Activities Pass, and $20 at the door.  If you are buying a ticket for a date, please have their ID# when purchasing.  Get your tickets today!

Students interested in attending the Dominican University College Access Tour should pick up a permission slip in Student Services.  All permission slips are due by THIS Friday, September 21st.  Space is limited!

Attention Juniors-  The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Qualifying Test, also known as the PSAT-NMSQT will be given at Glenbrook South on Wednesday, October 10th during the late arrival time.  An email was sent to all Junior parents with full details.  PSAT tickets must be purchased in the Bookstore between now and NEXT Friday, September 28th and the cost is $16.  Register now before the price goes up!  Beginning on Monday, October 1st, the late registration fee will be $30.  Please contact your counselor with questions about this test.  

Need help studying for an upcoming test or quiz?  Writing your college essay and want assistance?  Looking to work on your study habits?  Then the TLC is the place for you!  We have already met with over 250 students and are here to help you, too!  The TLC is open from 7:15 - 4:30 most days...stop on by for free tutoring!

SPORTS

Congratulations to the varsity Boys’ Golf team,
who took first place at the Naperville Central Invite. Mac McGurn earned medalist honors shooting an even par 72, Aaron Chong took second with a 74, Jack Upperman placed sixth with a 76, and Eric Yum (77) and Junho Oh (77) followed closely behind to help lead the Titans to victory.

ACADEMIC BOWL
Are you a future Jeopardy Champion?   Do you love trivia?   If so, come check out the GBS Academic Bowl team.   Our first meeting will be NEXT Monday, September 24 in Room 119.   All are welcome!

ART CLUB
Art Club will meet TODAY, Tuesday, September 18th, after school in art room 110! Come join us for art, laptop sticker designs, snacks and fun! Anyone is welcome to join! 

BASS FISHING
BACON CAN'T SOLVE ALL OUR PROBLEMS... BUT THAT'S WHAT FISHING IS FOR! Come join the Titan Fishing Team on Tuesdays after school in Room 194.  All students are welcome to join!  Please contact Mr. Zummo in the CTE department if you have any questions.

CALLIGRAPHY CLUB
Calligraphy Club is cancelled for TODAY, Tuesday, September 18th.  We will meet NEXT Tuesday, September 25th, after school in the SAO.

CODING CLUB
How many languages do you speak? Would you like to learn another one? Come to Coding Club on Wednesdays after school in Room 194 and learn a new coding language. No experience necessary.

DE LA CRU CLUB
Do you like hip hop dance and want to perform in dance show? All students interested in trying out for De La Cru Club should attend a dance clinic NEXT Tuesday, September 25th from 3:45-5:30 to learn a dance and try out on Wednesday, September 26th from 3:45- 5:30. Meet in the Northwest Cafeteria and wear athletic clothes. See Mrs. Zagorski in PE/Health with any questions. 

ENGINEERING CLUB
The world is full of problems just waiting to be solved...the question is, do you want to be a part of the solutions?  Join Engineering Club on Wednesdays after school in Room 609 (aka the Makerspace) and find out about the cool opportunities that await you!  Contact Mr. Sinde, Mr. Zummo or Mr. Schmidgall for more information.

GYMNASTICS (INTRAMURAL CO-ED)
Would you like to learn how to flip?  How about becoming the next American Ninja Warrior, running a Tough Mudder, learning how to breakdance, or improve at Parkour?  Glenbrook South Intramural Gymnastics can help with all of this.  Join us in the gymnastics gym on the west side of the main gym Tuesdays and Thursdays after school.  Everyone is welcome.

INTERACT
2018-19 Interact Club is set up to do amazing things to help others have better lives. More than 60 events await you and your friends, from making the Great Lakes Great again, to bringing tears of joy to senior citizens who need our help.  So juniors and seniors don’t miss out, get your yellow permission forms turned into the SAO or Math Office  and come experience the fun that only comes with community service!

INVESTMENTS CLUB
Investments Club is back!  If you missed our first meeting, be sure to mark your calendar for NEXT Wednesday, September 26th.  Come learn all about the world of investing and trading by participating in a Stock Market Simulation.  Any questions, see Mr. Whalen in the CTE Office! 

JAPANESE CLUB
Join Japanese Club for origami, learning to cook Japanese food, and fun culture activities! No language skills are necessary.  Bring your friends to Room 400 after school on Wednesdays to get involved.  

MARTIAL ARTS CLUB
Martial Arts Club keeps on kicking! If you are interested in learning a variety of martial arts or if you want to learn self defense, join us for Martial Arts Club, Tuesday mornings from 7:15-7:45 in the Drama Room. No previous experience is necessary. Come ready to have fun. We hope to see you there!

PING PONG CLUB
Ping Pong Club meets every Tuesday in the East Cafeteria from 3:30-4:30. Come on out and get your pong on! All are welcome.

RUSSIAN CLUB
Russian Club is back!  You do not have to speak Russian to join. New members are welcome. We meet on Tuesdays after school in Room 480. Come play games, watch movies, learn some Russian phrases, and eat some good food. 

SAFE
Hey South! Join SAFE, Self Appreciation For Everybody, a club about loving the skin you’re in. We focus on self-love and how to keep your body healthy! Visit us every Thursday after school in Room 345 for fun and snacks!

SHAKESPEARE CLUB
Friends, Titans, countrymen! Lend me your ears! Are you interested in performing scenes from Shakespeare and meeting students from other high schools? Want to attend professional plays in the city? Join Shakespeare Club! Everyone is welcome, whether you want to perform, watch, or both! We meet Wednesdays after school in Room 239.

STUDENT TO STUDENT
Come join Student to Student NEXT Saturday, September 29th at Richardson Adventure Farm and explore the world’s largest corn maze! All students are welcome! See Megan Shipp in the Athletic Training office for more information and to grab a permission slip!
