Glenbrook South’s graduating class of 2016 reported 96 percent of graduates pursuing higher education this fall at 184 different campuses.
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Oakton Community College remain the top college choices selected by Glenbrook South students.
Some of the other top selected colleges or universities include DePaul, Marquette, University of Illinois at Chicago, Loyola, University of Iowa, Illinois State, Miami of Ohio, Northwestern, Indiana, and new popular choices Purdue, University of Michigan, and University of Missouri. Each graduate applied to an average of 5.4 institutions.
Of the 96 percent of 2016 graduates attending college, 78 percent are staying in the Midwest - 49 percent of them in Illinois. Seven graduates are attending institutions overseas in Canada, South Korea, and the Philippines.
Twenty-eight GBS graduates reported they are participating in college athletics, with seven of them recruited to play a Division I sport.
Additionally, several stated they are taking alternative paths to continuing their education. Three graduates are taking a gap year, eight have secured jobs, five have entered the military, one has joined the Israeli Defense Force, three have enrolled in career/technical education, and one began an apprenticeship.
