Two seniors commit to college baseball

Titan seniors Jack Anderson and Jacob Newman signed letters of intent Feb. 1 to play Division I baseball in college.

Anderson committed to Northern Illinois University and Newman committed to Rutgers University.

GBS baseball coach Steve Stanicek said these two players couldn’t be more deserving.

“As a team, we focus a lot on progress, skill set and relationship building,” Stanicek said. “We don’t focus on results often, but these guys have proved that hard work can bring you the results you’re looking for. I couldn’t be more proud.”

Newman said he looks forward to the challenge of playing for Rutgers.

"Athletically, playing in the Big Ten I know I will be able to go up against the best players from around the country and compete with them," he said. "GBS has done an excellent job preparing me for college both academically and athletically. It has not been a smooth path to become a college athlete, but my coaches and teachers at GBS always had my back and worked for my best interest."

Anderson echoed Newman's thirst for a challenge.

"The NIU coaching/training staff will offer me the biggest athletic challenge while developing me for my future," he said. "Being a GBS Titan has meant tradition and family. Being on a team has always meant more than just winning. My teammates are my brothers – my family."
