Kim commits to Northwestern for fencing

Senior Natalie Kim signed a letter of intent April 11 to fence at Northwestern University. She plans to study engineering.

What makes Northwestern University unique, Kim said, is the fact that there is only a girls fencing team.

"I've gotten to know the coach and many of the fencers already," she said. "I can't wait to start."

Kim said she had some high expectations when selecting a college.

"I've loved all the opportunities, and the sense of spirit and community that I've experienced at GBS," she said. "I wanted to make sure I found a college that felt similar."

Kim said the Evanston school is the right fit for her academically and athletically.

GBS fencing coach John Skorupa wished Kim well.

"Natalie's level of fencing is exceptional," he said. "I couldn't be more proud that she will be competing at a Division 1 school. The wisdom that Natalie's shared with her teammates has been the biggest perk as a coach."
