Japanese program receives grants, plans Mini Quiz Bowl

Glenbrook South was awarded Oct. 11 with two generous grants from the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Chicago at the Consulate General of Japan in Chicago. 

A grant of $3,500 was accepted to further the school’s Japanese Language and Culture program. In addition, a grant of $2,000 was awarded jointly to GBS, Lane Technical Preparatory High School, Northside College Preparatory High School and Whitney M. Young Magnet High School for a Mini Quiz Bowl to be held at GBS this winter.

Dr. Yasuko Makita-Discekici, GBS Japanese teacher, and assistant teacher Ippei Watanabe accepted the awards.
