About Honorary Societies National Art Honor Society ABOUT Membership in National Art Honor Society is open to sophomores through seniors who have excelled in at least two Art classes with a grade of a B or above, are currently enrolled in an Art class, demonstrates leadership, service and character and plan to complete 16 hours of Art Community Service work. Invitations for membership are extended to sophomore, junior and senior students who have attained the following: Academic GPA of 2.5 or higher. Attend all mandatory NAHS meetings. There are a total of 4 throughout the school year. Attend and Teach the Community Service Workshop that takes place in the Spring: Arts in the Community Workshop. Attend the NAHS Initiation Ceremony in the Spring. Member students need to be enrolled in an art class during their membership year and maintain a B average in those art classes. Members must have successfully completed at least 2 Art classes at GBS with a grade of a B or above. Approval by Art Faculty. National Speech and Debate ABOUT This organization honors excellence in oral communication. Students who excel in debate and/or individual speech events are accepted as members. National Honor Society ABOUT Membership in National Honor Society is open to juniors and seniors who have excelled in scholarship, leadership, service and character. Invitations for membership are extended to junior and senior students who have attained the following: 1. Scholarship – GPA of 3.30 or higher 2. Leadership – Participation in 6 or more activities in at least two of four areas: athletics; students government/service; arts and journalism; special-interest clubs 3. Service – Time spent serving broader local or national community 4. Character – Approval by the faculty evaluation committee Initiation is held during the spring semester each year after the conclusion of five semesters for juniors and seven semesters for seniors. National Thespian Society ABOUT This organization is an honorary high school drama society which acknowledges students who have excelled in theatre arts. Members are announced at the Drama Club Banquet in the spring. Quill and Scroll ABOUT Quill and Scroll is an international honor society for high school journalists who have done superior work in some phase of journalism or school media work. Inductees may be staffers of a magazine, newspaper, yearbook, news organization, online site or radio/television station at the school, or one conducted by an external organization. Inductees must also have at least a 3.0 grade point average or be in the top third of their class. New members at Glenbrook South are inducted each spring.
